Reviews: Adagio Teas A Small Dream Becomes A Huge Reality

Like so many stories, Adagio Teas began as an idea, before blooming into
a small dream, that was soon realized, and finally growing into a huge
reality…a 26,000 square foot, twelve plus employees, successful online
store and numerous retail sites kind-of-reality.
Founded in 1999, the dream begun by Sophie
Kreymerman, and son’s Michael and Ilya is now a
hugely successful online and retail business offer-
ing a variety of quality hand-crafted artisan teas
from around the world, as well as teaware and
accessories.
The goal at Adagio is to bring handcrafted, artisan
teas to those who didn’t know much about tea
and provide an awesome tea drinking experience.
Adagio Tea’s mission statement reflects that
desire.  “Our goal is simple, deliver the best quality
gourmet tea from around the world, straight to
their cup.”

Adagio Teas offers the standard types of loose
teas, including black tea, green tea, white, oolong,
and pu-erh, as well as a nice variety of herbal,

flavored, chai tea, rooibos, iced teas, and specialty-gourmet teas, such as blooming teas, and
their Master’s teas.
They also pride themselves on their quality bagged teas, called “wrapp-
ed teas,” packaged in transparent gauze bags allowing the customer to
see the leaves unfolding as it steeps.  Adagio also offers every one of
their 210+ loose teas in tea bags in an effort to “introduce the casual
customer to better tea through tea bags,” before eventually moving on
to loose tea.

Adagio also offers a variety of teaware and accessories, including
glassware and electric and glass kettles and tea brewers, including
the ingenuiTEA, triniTEA electric tea brewer/maker, and the utiliTEA
kettle, which has been featured on HGTV.

They have also been featured in various news articles and magazines
including:  The Washington Post, Prevention, Los Angeles Times, The
Wall Street Journal, Time magazine, The New York Times, and more.

Adagio Teas are priced very competitively when compared to other
similar tea companies.  They rank a four out of five stars for their
shipping rates and policies, using the three major shipping companies:
UPS, Fed Ex, and USPS, to ship their products, as well as expedited
shipping.  Adagio ships to Alaska, Hawaii, P.O. Boxes, and APO/FPO
addresses (additional S/H may apply).  They also ship internationally
using International Priority Mail.

The company also shares a concern for the environment and works toward lowering their carbon
footprint.  This is seen in everything from their packaging to the programs it supports, such as
the Garcia River Forestry Project, which is a conservation-based forest management program in
California’s southwestern Mendocino County.

They also have a special section on their website called the Roots Cam-
paign, introducing the consumer to the farmers that grow and produce
the teas they purchase, closing the miles between the tea producer and
consumer and making the tea drinking experience more personal.

One of my favorite and most unique parts on their website is their custom
blending area where you can first choose the teas, and then the addi-
tional flavorings you want to add, from a list they provide.  You then name
your creation and it’s posted to their site under your name as the creator.
Very cool, and it definitely gets you thinking about each tea, its flavor pro-
file and which ingredients or flavors it pairs best with.
